California Medicaid Denying Claims If Providers’ NPI is Not Registered with

Palmetto GBA has learned that California Medicaid (Medi-Cal) is not
accepting claims in cases where the provider’s Medicare National Provider
Identifier (NPI) is not registered with Medi-Cal. This document contains
information on resolving the issue and a copy of the provider memorandum.

This article is based on Change Request (CR) 6231 and alerts providers to
the fact that the information about Internet-based PECOS applications is
now incorporated into Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
Medicare Program Integrity Manual Chapter 10. CR6231 describes the PECOS
CMS-855 applications.

Palmetto GBA is adding new dates and locations to the 2009 Understanding
the Rules and Using the Tools workshop series for Hawaii. This series is
designed for practice managers, billers, administrative staff and other
users to equip them with the tools they need to be successful with Medicare
